Special Olympics

Our STRIDE Program loves participating in Kentucky's Special Olympics. When we began in Special Olympics 25 years ago, we had 8 Special Olympics athletes. Now we have 71. From barely having enough to field one team, we now have 14 teams participating in 4 team competitions as well as individual sports like bowling & bocce ball. Here is some highlights of each sport. Scroll down for more information on Special Olympics of Kentucky as well as a link to the athlete medical form required to compete.

STRIDE currently competes in bowling, flag football, basketball, bocce ball, soccer, & softball. Team sports are divisioned based on skill. We have B teams, 1A, Teams, & 2 A Teams. The B division is more of a developmental division and then the skill level ascends from there with 4A being the highest. We feel like Special Olympics is a way to achieve improved physical fitness, build friends, learn a new sport, and develop a good work ethic. YOU could be the next Special Olympics star!
Special Olympics of Kentucky (SOKY) provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
