STRIDE, which stands for Supporting Therapeutic Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities Everyday, began in 2000. Therapeutic recreation has been used as a way to offer more experiences to individuals with disabilities, those with mental illness, and several other situations. It is based on providing an outlet that the participants enjoy and therefore more open to change and development through their participation. This process is at the core of the STRIDE Program.
STRIDE serves individuals that have a learning or developmental disability and who might also have a physical disability. We offer daily programming from cooking classes, dances, Special Olympic activities, therapy, daily living skills classes, and much more in an effort to improve the quality of life for the participants. We expect all of our participants to live up to their responsibilities at home, work, and in our program. We have an obligation to expect the best out of our participants and try to help them to continue to improve their skills.
